This weeks selections are a little all over the place, but since this entire exercise is me exposing my moods and feelings to you all via the music I'm listening to (remember, this series is exhibiting my first listen of the day) then here it is in all of it's schizophrenic depressed joyful frustrated meditative yearning glory. It's interesting to me how the world is moving past us slower than any of us has experienced in a long time, but it's external forces still affect and change us daily. What is this, seven weeks now? What has fundamentally changed in that time? I think we're all sitting and waiting to watch how the world will have changed when we come out of this hyperspace Sleep mode, but at the same time my feelings are raw and constantly changing. I can't really make peace with the situation... It's hard not to feel like a captive at this time. There's a part of me that feels saying it that way is really over-selling the point (any of us that have been locked up from a day, to a weekend to any protracted amount of time know that's a laugh to think of it that way when you can still go to a liquor store, or freely stroll around your block) but then I look at my children and see the strain this is putting on them. The effects of this on young minds could be long lasting, I hurt for them and all the kids who need their schools and friends (not to mention so many of the services that our schools provide for the marginalized children under the poverty line...). All to say, I'm all over the place (like I'm sure many of us are...). So here's a wide range of moods and vibes...

There's the new Westside Gunn for all of us rust belt boom bap enthusiasts. Griselda is from Buffalo and there's something in these beats and couplets that have the same energy and sense of place of my hometown Toledo. Even though this is new (great) music, it fills me with some invigorating feelings bordering on nostalgia.

Kali Malone radio show on NTS gives us a specific kind of drone that verges on the spiritual. Even for us died in the wool atheists, it's hard not to feel some cosmic movement in the universe while listening to this - my wife and I like to listen to her latest record 'The Sacrificial Code' after the kids are in bed in a dark room with ample Forestdale incense.. best way to unwind.

Toubin's newest mix of selections from his Night Train DJ night is a killer shake it all off dance with hysteria group of 45 RPM absolute bangers (drop this at your kids next Zoom dance party!).

I've been listening to a lot of the Aquarium Drunkard freeform pirate radio station, so I included one of the shows here that's archived online, William Tylers 'Sea of Glass' set. No surprise that I love William Tyler here to any TMR fans that pay attention, and his actual and musical history knowledge is second to none, he presents a mix here that really illustrates his worldview, it's beautiful morning or nighttime listening.

Highly recommend reading the William Eaton Bandcamp article, I love this idea of performing 'concerts' for the rocks and the sage. I know they're listening.

And lastly, this new piece from SiP which I got turned onto over on New Commute (great newish site for new music of varying genres..).

I hope, as always, everyone is doing as well as you can. If you're struggling, phone a friend or a family member. I'm speaking on the phone much more than I've done in years and it's actually helping me get past some anxiety and I'm finding a little comfort in simply shooting the shit with an old friend. Like hanging on the front porch watching the cars go by, just on the phone. Sending love to you all.. until next time. xo
