I am hard-pressed to name an artist that is more satisfying to collect than Kelley Stoltz.
I was relatively early to his game, being pushed a copy of his hand-painted, self-released "Antique Glow" LP back in 2003. Granted, it was not one of the numbered copies...but I wasn't even aware of such designations back then.
And for the past 18 years, he's released records at a solid clip, sometimes on labels I'm running, more likely though on other imprints. Sometimes hyper-limited, sometimes Kelley will give me a heads-up, other times I'll have to track 'em down on my own.
The consistency though comes from my enjoyment of the actual music. I relish in how unflaggingly reliable Stoltz is. I find myself singing his songs quite often...and that's as subconsciously great a thumbs-up recommendation I could ever give.
So as Kel stretches out into a territory previously uncharted by him (jazz), of course, the results are intriguing and respectable. Definitely could have fooled me into thinking that he'd been doing this for ages. Properly straddling the tenuous line between over-the-top and pale milquetoast...the tunes here are rewarding. They are well done. They inhabit a beauty.
As of this writing, only 11 copies left, so I strongly urge you to jump on the boat. It's worth it. I promise.
