"Here Comes More Bad News"
scum stats: red vinyl, rubber stamped label, no idea how many were actually pressed
This red vinyl 7-inch arrived at TMR headquarters, not even addressed to me, with a perfunctory note from the band's management. Gotta love a shot in the dark like that. I wish more folks sent in unsolicited vinyl. And I wish even MORE of them were as good as Spiritual Cramp.
"Dog In a Cage" recalls precisely recorded punk rock with noticeable flourishes reminding me of Rocket From the Crypt. Positive vibes chugging with impeccable taste and timing. Remarkably choice.
"Earth to Mike" is a brilliant song title, reminiscent of early 2000's-era Hives, all taut and propulsive hi-hat rhythm with guitars constructing a wall of treble. Delicious in every way.
"Small Man Big House" falls somewhere in the spiritual gulf between Weezer's "Undone (The Sweater Song)" and LCD Soundsystem's "Losing My Edge" with a sniff of Suicidal Tendencies "Institutionalized" with a tongue-in-cheek of that "legends in their own mind" kind of musicians. I snickered listening to it.
"Rattlesnakes in the City" is more in line with "Dog..." and "Earth..." and all in all, the four songs here feel remarkably consistent. It appears that the vinyl here is, at the moment, only available at the band's merch table. A tour of the East Coast is coming up in a few days, it might just be worth your effort to check them out and buy this platter. Rock on.
