Reviewing a record of someone's floor you've slept on...a rare joy this day and age.

(And yeah, John actually had a guest room, no floor for me, and the backyard BBQ marinade he made for us STILL stands singular as my favorite home-prepped meat that I've ever eaten in my life. Dreams about how succulent and juicy it all was. Merely 18 years old, I was far from cultured or with palate, but foundational moment nonetheless)

A-side is mid-tempo. quasi traditional structure, perfect as an outtake though you'd not waste space on an album for this. A limited edition 7-inch is exactly what this song was made for from an artist of John's pedigree.

The B-side is a driving beat, four chord punk formula with some clever resolutions and even synthesizer accents..Some might scoff at the apparent "by-the-numbers"-ness of it all, but John has been stoking his trade for FORTY YEARS at this point, he clearly knows something that everyone else does not. And the handwritten note included with the mail order...the delightful touch of class that shows he truly cares.
