"7 Days Out" b/w "Footsteps"
So I found a copy of this single probably twenty years ago. Paid nothing for it. Thought it was funky enough with groovy underpinning that made it a little bit extra special. I couldn't find any info on it anywhere then and still can't seem to find any info on it now besides two of the Brisker-named band members...which I'd assumed before I'd even Googled this further.
I mean, shit, it's only had a database entry on Discogs for three years now.
Anyway, 19-year-old me didn't really have the focus or patience to hold on to such a record. I unloaded it to Brad Hales of People's Records in Detroit. And then proceeded to NEVER FORGET about said transaction.
Maybe I sold it for $75? When Brad and I became closer friends in the ensuing years I asked him if he still had it and I was bummed he'd sold it on to somewhere he couldn't remember.
So in the back of my mind, as I became more enamored with off-the-beaten-path records, releases with no discernible story or tale, I always had a little desire to find another copy of this one.
Finally one showed up on eBay back in May and while I thought I might have to dig DEEP (the other single by Naked going for $600+ on Discogs) I was quite pleased to only spend $30 more on this single than I remembered selling it for two decades ago.
And I remembered everything...the "beat beat WASH" guitar pattern with a nice wah-wah landing on the three, the soulfully restrained male/female back and forth vocals. All these years later, I'm happy that my tastes have evolved enough to know that this one will not be leaving my collection...at all.
Ps...I guess I DO know that the record was mastered by GM Studios in East Detroit and that it was pressed at American Record Pressing in Owosso (which burned down on Devil's Night 1972) but that's all just gleaned from the run-out grooves.
