"There's No You"
scum stats: this appears difficult to find
Sometimes the gods are just smiling down upon us.
Was hipped to this band name earlier this week in relation to its landing on Detroit-area psychedelic concert posters as early as 1971.
I saw evidence of a record, but a complete lack of context to connect it to anything remotely "psychedelic" but still Detroit and with a 1980 release date.
Are these two different bands? With this name? Doesn't seem super ripe for coincidence. Or is this the same band with a wildly stylistic tangent separating their focus after nine years?
I have no idea how to answer this question in the moment and it's mildly irritating.
And it's not even listed on Discogs.
So imagine my surprise, completely unrelated, looking through my "Detroit Rap / Detroit 1980s" box not three days later and happening on this record with literally no recall of ever owning it, let alone the where or the when of how it landed in my possession.
I will happily welcome the question marks that land on my forehead with this one in light of actually having the record. Possess first, ask questions later.
Anyway, it's a vocal/instrumental Christmas song with mild modern soul and boogie vibes. Decent enough, but still so much to uncover.
The quest continues...
