The Hanatarash and His Eye
scum stats: limited to 1000 numbered copies on red vinyl
Went to hot new Nashville used vinyl spot (Daydream Records) the other day. With my two eldest daughters in tow, I told them that if they behaved, we could go to Walgreen's afterwards. Swear to god, Walgreen's is like their Toys R Us, they just GO NUTS at the mere mention of visiting a...drug store?
Yeah, I don't get it.
Anyway, Violet says she wants to get a record for herself and immediately grabs a $40 copy of Miles Davis' "On The Corner"
Bemused, I say "sure"
I then find two different Taylor Swift LPs in the bins and the girls FLIP in wide-eyed ardor, begging for these records. I cave. I am a pushover.
While cashing out, I ask to peep the "rare" box of 45s in the display case. Told that most of the good stuff was out of the building at a record show somewhere off-site, I didn't expect much.
So consider me delighted to find a single by Hanatarash. A Japanese noise band. Literally all I know about them is that they played one show with a bulldozer onstage and proceeded to tear down the back wall of the club.
Proof here...
The most punk shit ever. All the way back in 1985. This single was an instant buy at $30.
As I paid, I looked at my daughters and said, "Congratulations! We just made history. For the first time ever, someone bought Miles Davis, Taylor Swift and Hanatarash all at once."
Pretty sure they rolled their eyes.
