Hillbillies in Hell vol. XII

scum stats: three versions, different colors, all seem to be pressed in equal amounts and readily available on Discogs

So between Hillbillies and Brown Acid, I'm kinda shocked that the two compilation series I have the most copies of are from this century.

In short, the wisened folks at Iron Mountain Analog Research Facility are doing the lord's work in sifting through the decades of haunted, odd or twisted country sides from the hey-day of the Nashville system.

This particular volume features Porter Wagner, Johnny Paycheck, Dolly Parton and a spell of others who failed to reach their level of notoriety. These songs aren't happy, the subtitle of "Tormented Testament" is as spot-on a descriptor as you could ever hope for.

And truly, the rest of the volumes in the series are equally as great in their depth-diving, sometimes a little more themed than other...murder ballads, the apocalypse...you know, the real stuff. We are living in the golden age of chronicling music from the middle of the 20th century and we should all be glad to be here to experience it.
