LA LOM
Maravilla b/w Lucia
scum stats: even though they pressed these at TMP, I have no idea
Ok, so LA LOM is playing the Blue Room tonight, they are literally sound-checking twenty yards away from me while I type. Snuck in there, snagged a Red Bull and even in a totally empty room with nothing to prove, they just ooze a groove that is undeniable. These guys are SO FUCKING GOOD.
Gig is sold out, I'd guess they've sold through hundreds of copies of both their 7-inches even though prices are insane on Discogs. We tried to sign 'em to Third Man for their full-length debut but couldn't seal the deal and I'm not even hurt about it because I love the music so damn much. I hope they sell a million records because it will make the world a better place.
The band is touring like crazy, go see them, promise it will be a good time. Instrumental cumbia vibes with bolero bounce. And I am loath to even throw the suggestion out there, but I just can't sit still when this music is playing. So...very likely to make you dance. There's an underlying sinister, minor key darkness reminiscent of the baddest ass Link Wray shit that pops up from time to time, which seems to indicate these guys are more studied and taking wider influences than may be discernible upon brief exploration.
In short, I cannot praise this band enough, they get my highest recommendation. Do yourself the favor already and check it out.
