"On My Way Up" b/w "You Turn Me On"
After a nearly two year absence, my return to digging in Detroit-area record stores felt so good spiritually that words just come up short in describing the goofy-ass smile plastered across my face while digging through the detritus of Solo Records in Royal Oak yesterday.
Man...I MISSED this so much.
I wasn't really drawn to the 45 selection on the floor, but the handful of more choice pieces behind the counter definitely caught my eye. Some solid gems back there (original Two Star Tabernacle single) just felt intrinsically pleasing.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this Fourth Day single priced more than 50% off the lowest copy currently on offer on Discogs. It was already on my wantlist so I felt happy splurging.
Independently produced local Detroit soul disco from 1973 hits all the right spots for me. I would LOVE to be able to just buy an exhaustive compilation of all the singles matching this criteria. I prefer the b-side here...a little more upbeat and groovy.
But really, the music could've been just about anything...the main point here was that I bought a great Detroit record at a record store in the metro area that I didn't expect to see and it all hit me nice and squishy in the feels. Time slowly gives way to back to the things that we love. And I don't take it for granted.
