“Seek-Seek” b/w “My Lord What a Morning”
scum stats: 500 or whatever
I was drawn to this record by the destroyed labels on both sides, a kinda wabi-sabi before I was aware of that beautiful phrase the Japanese bestowed upon the world.
It always bears repeating…destroyed records oftentimes have the best stories to tell. Don’t be scared by dirt or water damage, those are just added flavor of the life the object has lived.
Upon looking into it just now, I was NOT expecting to see that the group is still performing and that it’s leader, Thomas Kelly is 105-years-old.
Kinda makes me feel like I should be working harder and yet taking a much longer view of my time. Do those things fly in opposition with each other?
“Seek-Seek” is rich, mellifluous and seems perfectly paired with the ocean video from YouTube below. The flipside rides along majestically, not so straightforward as “Seek” but much more evocative and untraditional in a pleasing way.
In my younger days, I would’ve waved this off and paid it no attention. But in my refined age I’ve been able to find a balance between the sacred and profane. This strangely feels like home for me.
