Angela Davis & The Mighty Chevelles
“My Love (Is So Strong)” b/w instrumental
scum stats: I bet they pressed 500
No, not the Black Panther revolutionary Angela Davis. The other one.
Apparently a grip of dead stock Flaming Arrow titles were uncovered in Detroit recently. Probably in a garage. So titles that for years had been extremely difficult to find are now just FLOODING the marketplace. I’d be surprised if there isn’t a shop or dealer in Detroit that hasn’t gotten their hands on some of this Flaming Arrow stock.
Boo hoo for anyone who tracked down/paid market for these copies before. Woo hoo for folks like me who are interested in upbeat, horn-accented funk as featured here but are not in the market to spend $1000 on it.
I feel like there’s never a shortage of stone cold bangers in this realm, from Detroit, that I am always being turned on to one or two of them a year, slowly assembling a collection that could, theoretically, make for a fun dance night.
The knowledge of a bulk find of something of this caliber has me hoping the fervor with which folks appreciate this record will be matched by the fervor for titles I released on Cass Records like Sagger, the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players and P.A., making the hundreds of copies of each of those in my basement a gold mine for whoever has to dig my corpse out from underneath them.
Side note: it appears that the album “The Answer” referenced on the top of this label was never released.
Side note: have you seen these liquid-filled 45 adapters for Greenway Records? Pretty cool stuff.
