The Webb People
“Bump With Me” b/w “I’m Sending Vibrations”
This is the caliber of record I’d always hoped to discover digging through dollar bins when I lived in Detroit. That never happened.
This is the caliber of record I now am happy to pay going rate for from my favorite Detroit shops the two or three times I roll in each year. It happens often enough to make me happy.
From the prime production prowess of the one-of-a-kind Dave Hamilton, the Webb People unleash a killer two-sider of psychedelic soul. I can’t imagine people dug this when it was originally released. But now? Man, this scratches every single one of my itches.
Clicky wah-wah flashes and spaced-out synth washes transport me to a time/place I’ve never experienced, but merely idealize and dream about from the comfy confines of my desk. While in the past I’ve tended to shy away from soul and funk records at high prices, I feel a refinement has come over me in my advanced age and gems like this will clear the pocketbook any time.
